Slow Foods at Schoolhouse Canteen

The Schoolhouse Canteen serves foods based on fresh local ingredients and homemade from scratch in our own kitchens under the leadership of  Executive Chef Randhir Singh.

We welcome guests to visit our kitchen gardens located nearby in Mutianyu Village at our Roadhouse location and in Yingbeigou Village at our Brickyard Inn. We also tend a small orchard and all of the fruit trees in our 14 properties around Mutianyu Great Wall.

A La Carte Luncheon Menu

The Canteen’s a la carte luncheon menu  offers Western comfort foods and fusion fare as well as several Chinese and Asian specialties to accommodate the tastes of our guests, who come from all over the world to the visit the Great Wall at Mutianyu.

Especially for Kids

Our menu also includes a section especially for children with freshly-made items such as vegetarian spaghetti, chicken pieces, and fish and chips favored by children.

Have a Sweet Tooth?

All of Schoolhouse Canteen’s desserts are homemade and include our famous brownies cut from the pan when you order. Our small-batch ice creams and sorbets with no additives or stabilizers are especially popular.

Allergies or Special Needs – Not to Worry!

For guests with food allergies or sensitivities, recipes for menu dishes are available for inspection on request. We can accommodate guests with Celiac Disease anytime. With advance notice we may be able to assist on special requests.

Fine Dining on Saturday Evenings

Every Saturday evening is the occasion for fine dining at the Great Wall. Candlelight, linens, fresh flowers, and crystal provide the setting for tasting dishes created and personally cooked by Chef Singh.

Sunday Morning Great Wall Breakfast

Every Sunday morning is the occasion for a generous country buffet breakfast at the Great Wall. Get up early or late you will find freshly baked goodies, eggs to order, and piping hot coffee.

Country Gourmet Series & Holidays

Schoolhouse Canteen also hosts a variety of special programs, including our Country Gourmet dinner series with live jazz and special meals for holidays. Every year our Easter Brunch, Mother’s Day Brunch, and sit-down American Thanksgiving Dinner are big hits with the expat communities in Beijing as well as visitors from afar.
